This CD-ROM provides a documentation of the exhibition ARS 95 organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki. ARS 95 having been one of the largest exhibitions of international contemporary art ever held in the Nordic countries is the pride of the Finn. It displayed 150 works of 90 artists from 23 countries. Yet, for us the significance of this grand show lies in the CD-ROM as a document. Its clearly arranged structure and easy-to-master navigation are based on the four thematic elements that make up the framework of the exhibition-they are Image-Language, Society, the Individual, and Artificial Reality. These can be followed by proceeding from one thematic block to another, as well as, by the map showing the exhibition space. Or switching back and forth between the two alternative routes-do not fear loosing your way-one can digress into the field of video interviews made with the artists, their CVs, and the documents of the discussions and debates held parallel to the exhibition, or the press reaction to the event presented in a clip-like fashion. After all this is a very intelligent CD that should be taught for future CD-makers. Its formula is also remarkable: work and interpretation in one CD-ROM.
