„…Milan Knízák was born in 1940 in Pilsen. He studied pedagogy, mathematics, fine arts and music. He has participated in numerus solo and collective exhibitions since 1958. In addition to mathematics, music and fine arts, he also deals with architecture as well as furniture, jewellery and clothes design. Besides his mother tongue, he speaks English and German, while publishing poems, studies and making unique artists’ books in these languages too (he participated with the latter at documenta 6 in 1977). In the late 1960s the underground rock group he founded, called Aktual, was one of the forerunners of punk music, although Knízák’s compositions also have contemporary musical elements. He has been making records and cassette recordings, films and – not least – actions and happenings since 1963-64. This list is probably not even close to being complete. Milan Knízák is one of the most exciting Eastern European figures of Fluxus.” (Tibor Várnagy)
