With George Maciunas, Fluxus Performances and Events (1978 -1990)
by Larry Miller
"Some Fluxus" is a video documentary that features performance works by the international assortment of artists known as Fluxus.
Excerpts from Larry Miller's 1978 interview with George Maciunas, the celebrated organizer of the group, trace the historical influences that shaped the development of the Fluxus artists. Maciunas explicates his elaborate chart, entitled "Diagram of Historical Development of Fluxus and other Four Dimensional, Aural, Optic, Olfactory, Epithelial, and Tactile Art Forms" and relates the importance of John Cage, Marcel Duchamfluences that shaped the development of the Fluxus artists. Maciunas explicates his elaborate chart, entitled "Diagram of Historical Development of Fluxus and other Four Dimensional, Aural, Optic, Olfactory, Epithelial, and Tactile Art Forms" and relates the importance of John Cage, Marcel Duchamp, Dadaists, the Futurists and Zen, as well as more obscure influences such as vaudeville and Spike Jones. His view of "concretism" as a through-line in contemporary art is a serious component to the understanding of experimental art today.
"Some Fluxus" juxtaposes
these rare moments of Maciunas with tapes culled from a large archive
of material shot by Miller since 1978. Featured here are Flux-concerts
at the Kitchen in New York in 1979 and at the Neuberger Museum, Purchase,
NY in 1983. Other events include, Ben Vautier, and Robet Watts.1989) illustrate
the assortment of intermedia sensibilities. And finally, Ben Vautier dresses
up to address the issue of whether Fluxus is still a living art movement.
"Some Fluxus" includes works by many artists, including / Résztvevők:
Ay-O, Eric Andersen, George Brecht, Philip Corner, Jean Dupuy, Ken Friedman,
Al Hansen, Geoffrey Hendricks, Dick Higgins, Joe Jones, Milan Knizak,

The Misfits / 30 Years of Fluxus (1993) (80') <>
a video by Lars Movin
This is a video portrait of a group of artists who since the early 1960s have completely disrupted our ideas of what art can be. A large part of the video was made in Venice in 1990, when many of the original Fluxus artists met to hold a large exhibition in connection with the Biennale - almost thirty years after the first highly untraditional Fluxus concerts that took place in various cities, including Wiesbaden and Copenhagen. The video itself is also untraditional as it takes advantage of the possibilities of manipulation provided by video technology. It includes interviews with most of the leading Fluxus artists, documentations of their work, and cuts from other films and video programs which were made during the past thirty years in the interests of this ungovernable art form.
The following artists
are presented in this video / Résztvevők:
Eric Andersen, Philip Corner, Henry Flynt, Jon Hendricks, Ken Friedman,
Alison Knowles, Jackson MacLow, George Maciunas, La Monte Young, Charlotte
Moorman, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Ben Patterson, Willem de Ridder, Ben
Vautier, Emmett Williams
Az 1990-es Velencei Biennálén egy nagyszabású Fluxus kiállítás alkalmából a mozgalom számos neves képviselője gyűlt egybe. Lars Movin videója a művészekkel készült beszélgetéseket, történeti dokumentumokat, a kiállítás műveit mutatja be.
