Blackfoot Fetish

Materials: foot cast of foam and cork; acrylic paint; leather, feather, turquoise.

Blackfoot Indians are three North American tribes formerly occupying Montana, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Fetish, in the North American tradition (usually the Zuni tribe), refers to totemic objects made of carved stone animals, sinew, leather, feathers, arrowheads, turquoise and other valued materials. The spiritual significance is obvious to members of the culture. The artistic importance some outside the culture grasp. There is, of course, an obligatory nod to Kraft Ebbing and those with proclivities considered unnatural by the uninitiated. Some might confuse Blackfoot with the French Algerians or Black Americans. This is not intended.

Blackfoot Bálvány

Anyagok: lábforma habból és parafából; akrilfesték; bőr; madártoll; türkiz.

Néhány szó magyarázatképpen. A Blackfoot (Fekete láb) indiánok három észak-amerikai törzsben élnek, melyek valamikor elfoglalták Montana, Alberta és Saskatchewan államok területét. A bálvány az észak-amerikai hagyomány szerint (legfőképpen a Zuni törzsben) faragott kőből, állati inakból, bőrből, tollból, nyílhegyből, türkizből és egyéb értékes anyagokból készült totemikus tárgyakat jelent. Ezek spirituális jelentősége az adott kultúrában élő emberek számára nyilvánvaló. A tárgyak művészi fontosságát a kultúrán kívül állók is érzékelhetik.
