BEN (vauTiER) SQUARE (Liszt Ferenc square)
French artist Ben VAUTIER’s exhibition
(joint project by Ben Vautier and György Galántai)
as part of the Budapest Autumn Festival.

The basic concept of the exhibition is inspired by word collages (George Maciunas) and scrambled letters (Ray Johnson), which are frequently used in Fluxus BEN(BEM) vauTiER (TIER resembles the Hungarian word “tér”, which means square).

Lines by Ben Vautier, translated into Hungarian, could be read on huge banners between the trees on the square and high up, on boards attached to lamp posts, a selection of Ben Vautier’s collection of quotes was displayed. Down, on the benches, the audience could see “bench texts”, which were personal and everyday statements calling on people to act.
