A well-respected institution with a history of acquiring challenging work, the Allen Art Museum was previously directed by Ellen Johnson, who was an early supporter of Ray Johnson and who had previously purchased one of his collages for the collection. The exhibition was accompanied by a catalog featuring numerous essays on the field, as well as a symposium gathering many of the leading American and Canadian artistamp artists.” Held, John, Jr.: This Wonderful Communication: Artistamps by Harley, Terracandella.com

“I got bored of keeping all the mail that I received, obsessively hoarding it in a growing number of cardboard boxed. I wanted to do something different with it, actually USE it in some way, so in June 1987, when I moved into a new house (34 Cotesbach Rd.), I decided to use the mail as wallpaper, I pasted all of my mail directly onto the walls, until the whole room was covered, than I went over it again, and again, until in September 1988, when I moved house, that had been covered three times over, it had been a continuously changing installation from June 1987 to September 1988.“ Mark Pawson
